Helping Better Together Introduction

Trauma-Informed Training, Supervision, and Support for Frontline Helpers

We developed the Helping Better Together program to ensure that skilled helpers can sustain their work over time, avoid compassion fatigue, and mitigate burnout. This program provides training, consultation, and launches supervision groups for organizations connecting individual helpers into a supportive network. This 30 minute introduction outlines our program, helps identify the target audience for your organization or interested individual helpers and identifies first steps to initiate a partnership with us.

The Sustaining Open Hearts Story

This 40 minute presentation tells the personal and professional story of our founder Leyla Welkin. This is the story of experiences that led to the creation of Pomegranate Connection and that provide the foundation for our philosophy and approach.  This personally focused introduction to our work aims to engage its audience in the stories that inspire and enliven the helping work of activists, professionals, volunteers and people who want more involvement in supporting survivors of all kinds of trauma.

Principles for Working Across Cultural Differences

This 90 minute presentation can be provided in one or two sittings. Trauma focused care has become common across the world and is a valuable foundation for much helping work.  But for many helpers and in many situations across the world, one of the most challenging aspects of working with survivors of violence, disaster and migration involves working across cultural differences.  Terms like ‘cultural sensitivity’, ‘cultural humility’ and ‘cultural awareness’ are fine concepts, but how to practice them is often unclear to helpers.  Our principles guide the implementation of effective work across cultural and other frequently encountered differences.  This can be a stand-alone presentation or part of a larger training process.
